About The Team And Position

We’re looking for a talented Liaison, Government Affairs to join Carvana’s Legal Team. We have an exciting, customer-friendly business and are constantly building relationships and telling our story to elected officials and regulators across the country. As we grow, we’re finding we have more folks who want to hear from us, and more policy developments to monitor and analyze. We need someone to help us manage the volume and know who’s who and what’s up around the country.

You will report to our Manager over government affairs in your region, and will work with various members of the Real Estate, Communications, Legal, and Market Ops teams. You’ll also engage and meet with elected officials, regulators, and industry stakeholders on behalf of Carvana to represent Carvana’s interests, track interactions with officials, and generally maintain a holistic perspective on Carvana’s many relationships with government officials. You’ll also identify legislation in process that is relevant to Carvana’s business, and prepare research summaries on key Carvana priorities.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Build influence and represent Carvana’s interests before government officials.
  • Build relationships with staff for government officials and government affairs partners and maintain a database of contacts and interactions.
  • Evaluate, retain, and oversee outside lobbyists and consultants.
  • Assist the Legal team with policy research on key issues.
  • Use connections and other resources to monitor and analyze legislative and regulatory developments in key states where Carvana operates.
  • Analyze key developments in policy and regulatory climate to determine applicability to Carvana’s business and decide how best to proceed.
  • Independently prepare reports on pending and enacted legislation at the end of legislative sessions.
  • Document Government Affairs meetings and takeaways.
  • Coordinate travel and meeting schedules for Carvana government affairs trips, and represent Carvana in those meetings.

What You Should Know/have

  • A Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited undergraduate institution.
  • 1+ year(s) experience in a government affairs, public relations, or similar/applicable role.
  • Energy, enthusiasm, and motivation to thrive in a rapidly growing company where roles and priorities evolve as the company evolves.
  • High analytic ability, with an ability to identify important issues and propose solutions.
  • Capacity to work on several projects simultaneously and keep them organized.
  • Excellent and effective communication skills, with a knack for building relationships with a broad range of people, including internal peers, management, external partners, and government agencies.
  • The ability to creatively communicate in verbal, written, and visual mediums.
  • Demonstrated ability to leverage relationship and rapport building skills to influence.
  • Experience performing independent research with both internal and external resources.
  • Willingness to travel.
  • Competency with Microsoft Office, including PowerPoint, and Google Drive, and with standard office equipment like computers, scanners, printers, etc.

We’d be thrilled if you also have

  • Experience working for or with elected officials or government agencies, or in public relations.
  • Experience scheduling meetings and coordinating travel.
  • Familiarity with the auto industry.
  • A demonstrated background in public policy or in tracking legislation.
  • Experience managing CRM systems.
