Policy and Advocacy Coordinator/Manager

Role Overview:  Medical Alley Association (MAA) plays a critical role in navigating the intersection of health technology businesses and public policymakers. Through collaboration with our members, MAA develops strategies and collects data to support successful legislative agendas in MN and DC. This role will further MAA’s strategies and relationships, with a focus on policy development and communication.

Position Structure: This position will serve a multi-functional role, partaking in public policy advocacy, membership, content creation, and communications. The State Policy and Advocacy Director will provide direct support.

Key Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the development of MAA’s state level advocacy strategy
  • Attend legislative hearings, various work/advisory groups, and other meetings as needed
  • Foster and grow relationships with key legislators, policymakers, and staff to build reliable contacts and base support for Medical Alley Association backed initiatives
  • Meet with legislators, policymakers, and staff to advocate for MAA initiatives or promote the work of MAA and its members
  • Work with the State Policy and Advocacy Director to:
    • Ensure regular communication of MAA policy and advocacy objectives, as well as the work of MAA members and community, with legislators, policymakers, and staff
    • Enhance the profile of the Medical Alley Association and its members among legislators, policymakers, and staff, including assisting in the coordination of ‘Medical Alley Day at the Capitol’
    • Regularly engage MAA members in policy and advocacy work, including maintaining a committee of government relations contacts at member companies, and provide expertise in translating industry and policy issues
    • Ensure regular communication of legislative developments and MAA policy and advocacy activity to MAA members
  • Aid in researching policy initiatives and monitoring legislation
  • Assist in coordinating with State and National organizations (MnTech, Minnesota Chamber, Minnesota Business Partnership AdvaMed, BIO, etc.)
  • Serve as liaison between the Membership and Policy and Advocacy teams
    • Ensuring that MAA members desiring further engagement in MAA’s policy and advocacy work are engaged, including tours or roundtables
    • Trends or common issues raised by MAA members are brought to the attention of the State Policy and Advocacy Director
  • Execute the Member Engagement Strategy for assigned MAA members, as determined by the Vice President of Strategic Growth and Policy

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • MAA staff should be curious, creative and entrepreneurial, with the desire to work as a team
  • MAA team members are results-driven, team oriented and community connected
  • MAA staff can effectively manage multiple projects and deadlines with minimal supervision 
  • Excellent written communication and interpersonal skills required
  • Bachelor’s degree required
