Government Relations Associate (Session Only)
The Government Relations Associate at the Minnesota Retailers will play a pivotal role in our advocacy initiatives. The Government Relations Associate will work closely with Minnesota Retailers' Director of Government Relations and Member Engagement, as well as the President, providing essential support in researching, writing, and communicating on issues vital to Minnesota Retailers’ legislative goals. This role offers a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of business, government, and public policy. The position will start January 2025 and end mid-June 2025.

Full-time, temporary, hourly, non-exempt, employment-at-will position.
Pay
$19.00-23.00/hour. Pay commensurate with experience.
Location
St. Paul, Minnesota. Primary work out of the Minnesota State Capitol with some work out of the Minnesota Retailers office in Arden Hills, Minnesota.
Main Duties & Responsibilities
- Monitor, track, and provide updates to Minnesota Retailers staff on legislative and regulatory developments, administrative actions, and executive orders impacting retailers across the state.
- Assist in the development and implementation of advocacy strategies, including drafting position statements, organizing advocacy campaigns, and coordinating meetings with policymakers.
- Author articles for weekly public affairs emails and engage in regular communication with members, partners, and other stakeholders on public policy matters.
- Conduct legislative research as directed by the staff, providing valuable insights into key issues.
- Assist in planning and executing Minnesota Retailers’ legislative events, including Retail Pop-up, Retail Day at the Capitol, and Legislative Wrap-up.
- Support Minnesota Retailers’ grassroots network, fostering engagement and advocacy within the retail community.
- Provide administrative assistance for Minnesota Retailers policy activities, ensuring smooth operations and effective communication.
- Other duties as assigned.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience.
- Understanding of Minnesota’s legislative process and regulatory landscape.
- Experience or interest in working in a membership-driven organization of retailers and key business partners.
- Exceptional research and analytical skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proven ability to build and maintain relationships with government officials and stakeholders.
- Highly organized with strong attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency in relevant software and tools, including Microsoft Office Suite.
