Patient Health Policy Marketing Manager

Description

POSITION SUMMARY: 

This position provides support to the patient health policy team in the areas of communications, marketing, and media advocacy.  Responsibilities include administering, coordinating and assisting with the implementation of advocacy campaigns, events, and other projects related to the health policy agenda.

ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Communications:
  • Creates, executes, and manages creative strategy for the Patient Health Policy team – ability to take material from subject matter experts on team and make it relatable for general public and stakeholders through functional storytelling.

     
  • Leads communication strategy consistent with department, stakeholder and organization plans, mission and values and alignment with the overall NMDP strategy.

  • Develops and manages specific communication strategies and plans based on audience and department goals and closely manage and own specific functions of the department identified by department leadership, including media, emergency, and leadership communications, website and social media.

  • Manages other strategic communications including campaign development, public positioning, stakeholder education and engagement, coalition building, grassroots advocacy, government affairs, media relations, issues management and crisis planning and communications.

  • Creates copy, edits and produces both print and online publications; create and updates content for the website and social media accounts and edit communications, assisting with proper formatting and delivery to the appropriate audiences through the appropriate channels, as well as managing select department functions or service relationships.

  • Executes media outreach and public education activities, drafting and reviewing written op-eds, press releases, media advisories, Q&A, talking points, and statements as well as other communication documents.

  • Develops an in-house library of policy communication and resources including:

    • Creating a catalog of advocacy stories;
    • Writing best practice tip sheets, newsletter articles and web;
    • Maintaining a content/image/video library;
    • Identifying and promoting relevant patient and donor stories; and
    • Conceiving of and executing research projects on policy communications and best practices, strategies, trends and technology as standalone projects.
  • Prepares resources for various stakeholder groups including the NMDP Executive Team, the NMDP Board of Directors, the Patient Outcomes and Experience leadership team, and external stakeholders as it pertains to public policy. 

 

Development and Implementation of online advocacy program:

  • Coordinates and implements effective online strategies and e-advocacy campaign as part of the Health Policy team to meet campaign objectives for advocacy work.

  • Designs and implements timetables for advocacy communications and campaigns including events, e-communications and media outreach.

  • Manages and establishes audience segmentation for email program. Works with other departments to identify appropriate segments for cross marketing (e.g. direct mail recipients, Registry Communications, youth, advocacy etc.)

  • Administers ongoing operations of digital e-advocacy campaigns.

  • Manages social media needs as related to health policy campaigns working in conjunction with the social media team and Government Affairs Public Affairs Manager.

  • Coordinates the collection, presentation and analysis of data to measure effectiveness of current projects and project teams as well as to inform new initiatives. Provides recommendations on course of action based on the performance of online campaigns though analysis of online activity reporting and analytics.

  • Serves as a liaison between Patient Health Policy team and various NMDP departments and vendors.

  • Serves as a liaison to IT services.

  • Ensures that process documentation is kept current, accessible and provides training accordingly.

 

Reporting and Analytics:

  • Tracks, monitors and reports performance against project plans, budgets and department goals. Optimizes campaigns and in-market efforts based on real-time results.

  • Maintains a current understanding of the marketplace including industry trends and best practices as it relates to online communications, engagement and fundraising, setting benchmarks for our programs based on industry metrics.

  • Regularly updates relevant project team on project results and measurements. Provides project briefs and maintains adherence to scope of work.

 

Other Accountabilities:

  • Other duties as assigned in support of the Patient Services vertical. 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Knowledge of:

  • Strong understanding of interactive communications to augment marketing communications to public audiences.

  • Knowledge of non-profit industry including best practices and emerging trends.

  • Knowledge of advocacy communication strategies and best practices.

  • Solid technical understanding of web and e-communications development.

  • Understanding of principles of information architecture in relation to content writing and website development. 

  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, Power Point and other company software.  Experience with online campaign management software/applications, like Luminate Online, Phone2Action, Salesforce, etc. preferred.

 

Ability to:

  • Demonstrate strong project management skills including the ability to plan, direct and implement multiple projects.

  • Get results in a highly matrixed organization, often with ambiguous roles. 

  • Demonstrate advanced interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills and the ability to verbally translate technical information to non-technical people and to skillfully persuade in difficult situations.

  • Demonstrate highly detail- and results-oriented, with excellent proactive problem definition and problem-solving skills. Self-directed worker who can adapt to change in fast paced environment.

  • Commit to infrequent travel – approximately 2-3 times per year.
  • Must exemplify our Be The Match Standards.
 

Education and/or Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree, with an emphasis in marketing, communications, journalism, public relations, or related field preferred.

  • 3-5 years of progressive experience in marketing, planning, communications, public relations, market research, or equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience in a healthcare setting. Experience working successfully with senior-level executives. Experience with program management and event planning/consulting. Established network of current communications professionals, including trade associations, media organizations, political campaigns and non-profits.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: (Additional qualifications that may make a person even more effective in the role, but are not required for consideration)

  • Master’s Degree in communications or related field.

  • Working knowledge of core web development programming languages (HTML, XTML, XHTML, & CSS) and experience with Blackbaud Luminate Online, Phone2Action, Google Analytics and integration of metrics reporting strongly preferred.
