Role Overview:  The Medical Alley Association (MAA) plays a critical role in navigating the intersection of healthcare business leaders and public policymakers. Our ideal candidate will serve in a multi-functional role, participating in public policy advocacy, external relations, and communications and have a track record of successfully developing relationships at the legislature. Must be self-motivated, relationship savvy and a collaborative team member. This position will work directly with the Government Relations team at the Capitol.

Key Responsibilities: 

• Develop and foster relationships with MN State and Federal legislators, their staff and various MAA members

• Help to manage internal and external communications on public policy and business issues

• Coordinate and help to create policy content for the GR newsletter 

• Contribute to legislative strategies and activities at State and Federal levels

• Lead research related to comparative state analysis reporting and other policy initiatives

• Attend Minnesota legislative hearings 

• Monitor committee hearings, secure committee testimony, and tracking of bills through the legislative process 

• Develop relationships and work with other organizations, when necessary (i.e. MHTA, MN Chamber, AdvaMed)

• Represent MAA at legislative and community events

• Keep database and records up-to date on GR related activities

 Qualifications:

• Must be a people person! Enjoy interacting, listening, and networking with all levels of business professionals

• MAA team members should be curious, creative and entrepreneurial, with the desire to work as a team to accomplish our mission 

• MAA team members are results-driven, team oriented and community connected

• MAA team members can effectively prioritize and manage multiple projects and deadlines with minimal supervision  

• Action oriented with strong interpersonal and influencing skills

• Strategic thinker and continuous learner who demonstrates the willingness and ability to learn

• Regardless of political affiliation, team members are expected to establish and maintain courteous and effective relationships when interacting with all members, Legislators, Legislative staff, lobbyists, media and the general public, demonstrating professional, ethical, and confidential standards

• Bachelor’s degree required

• Title and compensation dependent on qualifications

 

Position Details: Category: Full-time Employee / Hours: 40 hours/week – Hours may vary during legislative session with little advance notice.

 Ability to work with confidential information with appropriate discretion. Must have reliable transportation.
