RESPONSIBILITIES:

Works to promote and achieve the legislative and regulatory priorities of the Minnesota Nurses Association (MNA). This position requires advocating on a broad portfolio of issues, including, but not limited to healthcare, nursing practice, social justice and labor. Duties may include, but are not limited to, lobbying elected officials; building relationships with state administrative leaders or local government staff to help pass legislation and further contract goals; researching and analyzing public policy; tracking legislation and local issues; making recommendations on legislative or local government issues; collaborating with community partners; participating in election activity; and educating members on the legislative process.

This position will work with a team of other professionals across the organization to coordinate the successful passage of key priorities set by the MNA Board of Directors and Governmental Affairs Commission.  This position will require both in person and virtual events and meetings. Some long evenings, weekends and travel are required, including overnight stays.

Qualifications:

Education:  Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.  Preference given to candidates with nursing or healthcare background. Registered nurses are encouraged to apply.                                   

Experience: A minimum of 3 years lobbying experience required.  Additional experience desired includes:

  • Demonstrated ability to draft, analyze and testify on bills and amendments. 
  • Ability to strategically navigate and advise on Minnesota’s political climate
  • Research and analytical skills in the areas of legislation, administration and rulemaking.
  • Experience developing relationships and working with elected officials and administrative departments
  • Understanding of legislative bodies and administrative agency processes with a focus on the state of Minnesota.
  • Skills in facilitating meetings both in person and virtually.
  • Demonstrated ability to educate others on behalf of organizational priorities and on the process of legislation and political action. 
  • Knowledge of healthcare scope of practice.
  • Aptitude in advancing health equity and social justice policies

Salary:  Salary range begins at $79,789 and will consider experience and qualifications. Step increases per collective bargaining agreement. MNA is an EEO/AA Employer.
