Legislative Coordinator, St. Paul
Messerli Kramer is a leading Twin Cities law firm with offices in Minneapolis, Plymouth, and St. Paul, Minnesota. The firm was founded in 1965 and represents a variety of clients – from large corporations to non-profits and local units of government. Messerli Kramer serves clients through three unique, yet complementary, divisions. We are currently searching for a Legislative Coordinator to join our St. Paul Government Relations team.
Overview:
Individual will be responsible for tracking of legislative activity before the Minnesota Legislature and state agencies, including but not limited to: tracking bill introductions and committee hearings; attending committee hearings as necessary; monitoring session and sending out updates to government relations team; preparing reports and documents for distribution to our clients; and preparing talking points for hearings. Additionally, is responsible for the calendar of supervising attorney. Will handle research of legislative issues impacting clients and provide periodic and end-of-year legislative reports to clients served by the firm. Handles billing responsibilities according to client contracts. Will follow local and national news outlets daily to provide up-to-date articles and pieces of interest to our clients. Will provide administrative support to non-supervising attorney/lobbyists staff when necessary. Administration of association management duties as needed, including: coordinating association meetings and materials; coordinating events for client interaction with legislators and other elected officials. Works with other Legislative Coordinators to cover and back up day to day operations and overall administrative activities for the Government Relations office including answering incoming phone calls.
Position Details:
- Scheduling appointments, along with organized file maintenance
- Communication drafting, report writings and response letters
- Document filing, record keeping for future reference.
- Ability to provide times and accurate support and proficient with office programs to write documents, prepare presentations, and modify spreadsheets as required.
- Excellent attention to detail and possess strong communication skills
- Interaction with government officials.
Position Expectations:

Requirements:
- College degree
- Minimum of two years of experience in a related field
- Knowledge of or experience in the legislative process and bill tracking preferred
- Proficiency in Microsoft Suite
- Highly organized, ability to multitask on a variety of projects
- Ability to work under strict deadlines to deliver high-quality documents
- Excellent oral and written communication skills. Writes clearly and informatively
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to professionally interact with clients, elected officials and legislative staff
- A reliable and dependable team player; balances team and individual responsibilities.

Salary: $23.01 - $28.85 per hour ($47,860 - $60,000 anually)
