JOB DESCRIPTION: EXECUTIVE VICE PRESIDENT
ACCOUNTABLE TO: BOARD OF DIRECTORS


PRIMARY OBJECTIVES:


• Provide leadership, direction and planning to ensure legislative and regulatory goals are
met through a strong working relationship with consultants and the Government Relations
Committee.
• Implement the policies of the Board of Directors. Recommends and participates in Board
formulations of goals and related policies.
• Plans, organizes, directs, and coordinates the staff and consultant’s programs and activities
of the Association to ensure that objectives are obtained, plans fulfilled, and member needs
met.
• Provide primary feedback and communication to the Board of Directors, Executive
Committee, local association executive officers, and general membership.


MAJOR AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:


GOVERNANCE
• See that the Board of Directors and Executive Committee are kept fully informed on the
condition of the Association, and on all important factors influencing it. Attends all
meetings of the Board of Directors and Executive Committee.
• Plan, formulate, and recommend to the Board basic policies and programs which will
further the objectives of the Association.
• Maintain bylaws and policies and comply with state and federal requirements necessary to
maintain non-profit status.
• Execute all decisions of the Board of Directors and Executive Committee.


GOVERNMENT AFFAIRS
• Provide leadership, communication, and strategy for government affairs acting as chief
lobbyist as the unified voice for the state.
• Monitor and report on regulatory and code issues, and report to the Government Relations
Committee, Board of Directors and Executive Committee.
• Act as consensus builder for board of directors, coalition groups, regulators, etc.
• Work directly with members who have specific expertise in various areas of government
affairs.
• Prepare and write white papers and educate members on various topics.
• Provide testimony at state legislature and regulatory hearings as needed.
• Coordinate state, local, and national grassroots efforts and programs.
• Have knowledge of all Campaign Finance board rules and reporting regulations is essential.
• Assist Political Action Committee (BAM PAC) with fundraising efforts.
• Responsible for filing lobbying and BAM PAC reports with Campaign Finance.


PERSONNEL AND CONSULTANTS
• Recruit, hire, train and motivate Association staff and consultants.
• Orient staff and consultants to policies and procedures, clearly communicating work duties
and responsibilities so individuals may proceed with certainty in performance of their jobs.
• Monitor the work performance of assigned staff and consultants on a continual basis,
conduct effective performance appraisals, and take corrective action whenever necessary.


OPERATIONS
• Execute such contracts and commitments as may be authorized by the Board of Directors or
established policies.
• In cooperation with BAM officers, develop and operate within annual budget. Prepare
monthly budget reviews.
• Ensure that all funds, physical assets, and other Association property are properly invested,
safe guarded, and administered.
• Plan, promote, and oversee all official meetings of the Association.
• Prepare and continually update suggested Long Range Plan for the Association and carry
out those proposals approved by the Board.
• Maintain continual communication with the BAM President regarding implementation of
the Association policies and legislative goals.
• Contract for year-end financial reviews, audits, and tax returns of BAM, and reports results
of same to the Board of Directors.
• Execute office lease and works with management company on problems and space needs.
• Oversee purchase of necessary office equipment.


PUBLIC RELATIONS
• Serve as media contact for the industry.
• Oversees BAM's website, social media accounts, newsletters, writing and editing articles,
and other publications.
• Represent the Builders Association of Minnesota as a speaker at various functions as
requested (travel may be required).
• Act as Association spokesperson in coordination with BAM president.
• Promote the value of the building industry to the public.
• Maintain effective relationships with other trade associations, and local, state, and national
HBA's.
• Use technology including social media platforms and Constant Contact to interact with
members, policy makers, and the public.


MEMBER RELATIONS:
• Answer member and local association requests for information.
• Provide resources on website and by other means for members and local associations.
• Communicate value of membership and keeping members up to date on Association
benefits and activities.
• Coordinate annual leadership meeting for local executive officers, local presidents and
BAM leaders.
• Travel to each of the 12 Minnesota local associations to meet with their Board of Directors
or general membership at least one time per year.
• Maintain a relationship with and, when appropriate, attend meetings of the Fargo-
Moorhead HBA.
• Attend, when appropriate, NAHB meetings and report results to membership.


ESSENTIAL SKILLS
• Must be detail oriented with strong organizational skills.
• Must be able to plan, prioritize, complete and evaluate work of self, staff, and consultants
on a continuing basis.
• Must be able to utilize cloud-based technology such Word Press, Dropbox, Constant
Contact, Quick Books, and other online databases as well as programs such as Excel,
Power Point, Word, Prezi, etc.
• Must be able to project a favorable image of the Builders Association of Minnesota to
members, vendors, policymakers, and the general public.


PERFORMS OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES AS NECESSARY
