This position exists to provide legal advice and expertise to the Department of Human Services (DHS) on data privacy, data security, and related issues as a member of the Privacy Office. The individual in this position will be responsible for providing the Department, senior leaders, and staff with legal advice and expertise to support the Department’s compliance with all applicable state and federal privacy laws, in collaboration with other Privacy Office and General Counsel’s Office staff. The individual in this position will conduct legal and policy research and analysis and provide advisement on diverse and complex matters, including, but not limited to, state and federal laws and policies governing data privacy and security matters as they relate to the Department in its policymaking and provision of programs, services, and health care; legislative efforts; contracts and data sharing agreements; investigations and audits; involvement in litigation; privacy and security trainings; and compliance with policies and controlling legal authority. 

Responsibilities include but may not be limited to:

• Conduct legal analysis of data privacy and security incidents involving Department data. 
• Provide legal advice to DHS General Counsel staff and Department directors, managers, and staff on data privacy issues and related legal issues within the Department.
• Support the Privacy Office work of the Department of Human Services by conducting legal and policy research and analysis on diverse and complex matters to produce written products that collect and apply research on data privacy, data security, and related legal issues concerning the Department.
