Salary Range: $107,575.52 - $127,524.80 Annually

Position Description

This appointed position assists the City Council and Mayor in the development, management, and implementation of the City's legislative and federal programs, and represents the City at regional and local governments and State agencies.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assists in all representation of the City before the State Legislature.
  • Represent the City's positions to other local government bodies, civic groups and other organizations to obtain concurrence for City's positions; this also includes reporting back to the City the concerns of other bodies.
  • Represent the City on Boards and committees or organizations charged with designing State and local legislative policy. 
  • Research issues which come before the IGR Committee and recommend alternatives.
  • Monitor actions and issues of other governmental bodies, regional bodies and the County.


Working Conditions: Normal office environment. During the legislative session, a majority of time will be spent at the State Capitol.

 

Required Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Public Administration, Political Science, Journalism or a related field.
 
Experience: Four years of experience in management of complex issues, preferably lobbying or legislative policy analysis.  Experience with a legislative body similar to the State legislature preferred.

Equivalency: An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Strong functional technical skills and broad knowledge and understanding of the legislative process and the subjects important to the City Government.,
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a political environment and interact with congressional members, legislators, mayors, chief staff, etc.
  • Ability to make decisions and exercise independent judgment.
  • Ability to work well in a high visibility environment under pressure.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
