Director of Government Affairs - MN

 

Cooperative Network, the trade association for cooperative businesses in Minnesota and Wisconsin, is seeking a qualified candidate to fill the full-time position of Director of Government Affairs – MN, in its St. Paul, Minnesota office.

 

Primary responsibilities include: directly lobby the legislature and actively engage with state departments and agencies to advance the interests of Cooperative Network and members; meet regularly with Cooperative Network members and prospective members as a representative of Cooperative Network to earn or maintain their membership and support; represent the association in promoting and understanding of Cooperative Network and the cooperative form of business by making appearances and presentations to businesses, organizations, and government agencies; and direct, plan, and implement Minnesota government affairs events such as Cooperative Day at the Capitol and other Cooperative Network events with assistance from fellow staff members; as well as other association support activities as directed.

 

A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in political science, public relations, business, economics or related field from an accredited college or university, or equivalent work experience. A minimum of three years’ experience in the legislative field, with an employment history demonstrating increasing responsibility. Knowledge of legislative, regulatory and administrative processes is necessary.  Understanding and appreciation of the cooperative business model and experience working with member-owned cooperatives is desirable.

Must be organized, present a professional image, and proficient in the Microsoft Office Suite.

 

This full-time position requires a flexible schedule with occasional evening and/or weekend events. Occasional travel within and outside of Minnesota may be required to attend meetings and/or interact with cooperative leaders, boards and committees, and related entities.
